Space Inflatables > Inflatable Space & Planetary Habitats > Expandable Lunar Habitat Expandable Lunar Habitats for NASA Constellation ILC was awarded a research program from NASA headquarters in 2005 to develop flexible habitat material systems and prototype habitat modules for the Exploration Systems Technology Development program. The goals of the program included: Improve system/mission design flexibility by making inflatable solutions highly robust & reliable Increase infrastructure flexibility to allow more diverse missions to be conducted (lightweight, stowable solutions) Create modular multi-functional flexible materials that are scalable and can become the building blocks for many types of inflatable structures Create a multi-functional laminate that provides an optimized mass solution rather than a grouping of point solutions ILC has provided material system testing and habitat demonstration modules in the first phases of this program.
