| Solar sails are a form of satellite propulsion technology that utilizes inflatable rigidizable booms and membrane structures to deploy and support large flat thin film surfaces that are accelerated by impact with the solar wind. ILC Dover has been participating in solar sail design and manufacturing efforts since the 1970s. ILC has recently been involved in several solar sail programs for system concept development, ultra-lightweight rigidizable boom design and manufacture, solar sail material development and testing, and prototype fabrication. |
