| ILC has developed numerous unique flexible materials in research conducted at ILC since the mid-1990s that exhibit self-healing characteristics. This allows us to create inflatable structures that are highly survivable in a variety of environments. We have tested self-healing space suit components in a thermal vacuum chamber and sealed penetrations that simulate hypervelocity impacts with excellent sealing results. We have developed and tested many materials classifications including viscoelastic gels, micro-encapsulated reactants, and environmentally reactive materials. We have demonstrated the ability to seal penetrations in many types of pressurized structures. |
