EZ BioPac® – Single-Use Technology

Biopharmaceutical companies face a difficult dilemma: To get to market quickly, they must produce biologics more efficiently—lowering costs and using fewer workers—but there are daunting roadblocks in the way.

In manufacturing biologics, In early stages it is easier to use bottled liquid media, but as processes are scaled up to support larger clinical trials, that’s not an option—the costs of shipping liquid media are simply too high.

Because of that, most media and buffers these days are in powder form that must be hydrated, mixed and packaged to be used. This “just in time” approach is more compliant and efficient, but it opens the door for contaminants to infiltrate the process.

Historically, it has been common to see workers pouring open buckets of powdered media into a mixing tank, causing powder to create an environment that is hard to clean.

Engineers and scientists at ILC Dover did painstaking research for a solution to this dilemma. They sought a process that would benefit the biopharma industry and help to provide safe, effective products for patients. Their efforts and ingenuity led to the EZ BioPac® powder containment and transfer system.

With the precisely engineered system, one worker can quickly and easily add specific amounts of media and buffer powders into the EZ BioPac bag, then dispense the contents for manufacturing. The bag’s unique design and protective skirt reduce or eliminate contamination.

The EZ BioPac system is specifically designed to handle biopharmaceutical powders. The bag seals completely and dispenses fast. There is complete product recovery.

The ILC Dover team will demonstrate the EZ BioPac system at the BIO International Convention hosted by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) in Boston MA from June 4-7. The Convention gives more than 16,000 attendees from 74 countries access to global biotech and pharma leaders and networking opportunities. #BIO2018
